Russian Communist Workers Party

Our worst fears have come true. We have always believed that NATO and fascist terror are the greatest threat to world peace, and that the most important work we can do today is build a united front against fascism and war. We condemn in the strongest terms the unprovoked attack on a Russian Su-24 aircraft by Turkey. Evidence suggests that this pre-meditated attack was planned and coordinated by the United States, with the full cooperation of the Turkish government and NATO.

The Russian Su-24 was clearly in Syrian airspace when it was attacked. According to the surviving pilot, Captain Konstantin Murahtin, the plane never entered Turkish airspace. Both the Russian General Staff and the Syrian Air Defense Command confirmed that the Su-24 never crossed into Turkish airspace and was downed on Syrian territory. According to international law, Turkey, acting at the behest of the USA, had no right to shoot down the Russian plane, even if it had entered Turkish airspace for 17 seconds. The motive for the attack seems to be to instigate war and greater involvement in the region by Russia. In an interview with Sputnik, US political analyst and CPR News radio host Don DeBar pointed the finger at Turkey, which he accused of unleashing hostilities against Moscow and Damascus when Turkey ordered the Russian Su-24 bomber shot down over Syria.

“This move on the part of Turkey looks like and is an insane step, as such,” DeBar said. However this view differs from the Russian and Syrian analysis of the events. The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said there was a question of American involvement in the downing of the Russian plane. According to his sources, the US demands all members of the anti-IS coalition led by Washington, who use US-made military aircraft, to coordinate all deployments with the US military.

“I wonder if this demand of the Americans covers… Turkey. If it does, I wonder whether Turkey asked permission from the US to fly its US-made planes and take down – let’s say ‘an unidentified’ – plane over Syrian territory,” Lavrov said.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has stated further that, “We’re not going to wage a war against Turkey,” adding that Russia’s attitude toward the Turkish people has not changed. This is encouraging. The Russians seem to be playing a responsible role, seeking peace, and defeating the fascist threat posed by ISIS. We agree with this position. This is what peace forces around the world need to be focused on. We need to work together as communists and front line fighters to bring the scourge of ISIS and fascism to an abrupt end. To do this we must oppose all of the imperialist actions of NATO and the United States. While we do this, we offer our condolences to all the families of the soldiers that have died in this war against fascism and in the effort to prevent World War III.

Our Party is not speaking against the Turkish people. We are standing against the reactionary policies of the government of the United States and their puppet, the Turkish government, and the forces of reaction throughout the world that seek to turn back the clock of history to a time when freedom and democracy did not exist. The fascist menace must be destroyed at all costs.
